At World Dyslexia Foundation, our mission is not only to educate, but to illuminate, empower, and transform lives.
We believe that dyslexia is not a learning disability, but a distinct learning ability that deserves recognition, understanding, and support. Our mission is to change the narrative surrounding dyslexia and help individuals see it not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to unlock unique potentials.
We understand that education is a powerful tool for transformation. It's a right, not a privilege, that should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their learning abilities. That's why we are committed to providing free, quality education to all individuals with dyslexia and equipping teachers with the skills to effectively teach them.
Our mission extends beyond the individual. We aim to foster a more inclusive, understanding, and supportive society for individuals with dyslexia. We believe in the power of community and collective action; together, we can create an environment where everyone has an equal opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
We want to create a world where dyslexia is no longer misunderstood or stigmatized, but celebrated for the unique perspectives and abilities it brings. A world where every individual with dyslexia can confidently embrace their unique learning ability and achieve their fullest potential.
This is our mission. It's profound, it's ambitious, and it's achievable—but not without your support. Join us in making a difference, in changing lives, and in transforming the way the world understands and supports dyslexia.

Dyslexia's impact can vary between subjects. For example, a dyslexic individual might excel in mathematics but struggle with reading, writing, and spelling, or vice versa. The extent to which dyslexia affects learning can fluctuate throughout one's life. Often, dyslexic individuals feel they must work exponentially harder than their peers. If the effort becomes too overwhelming, they might feel pressure to give up, leading to a sense of falling through the cracks.
Perceived Irritation:
The mistakes made by dyslexic individuals might appear careless to others, potentially causing irritation.
Heightened Sensitivity:
Dyslexic individuals tend to be highly sensitive, becoming upset when they make mistakes or feel accused of being wrong. This sensitivity, however, has a positive side, as it often results in a keen perception of others' thoughts and feelings, along with a strong sense of justice.
Talent:
Despite the challenges, dyslexics often excel in areas such as art, music, drama, sports, carpentry, mechanics, computers, design, electronics, cooking, building, and troubleshooting. Their ability to perform hands-on tasks and their creativity often outshine their academic struggles, leading others to believe they should just "try harder."
Multifaceted:
Dyslexic individuals lead complex lives. Often characterized as intense and "high maintenance," they juggle a myriad of challenges and strengths.
Correctable & Manageable:
With appropriate training and techniques, dyslexia can be managed effectively. The training helps dyslexics identify their confusions and correct their "stumblers." This process paves the way for them to experience focus, allowing them to toggle between being focused and unfocused, corrected, and dyslexic. Rather than battling dyslexia, they learn to use it as a tool for learning. This approach helps minimize exhaustion from excessive "trying" and "concentrating" and enables them to determine when to engage their perceptual talents. In doing so, they not only preserve their talents and abilities but also enhance them. With these strategies, they can continue to improve their skills and self-esteem immeasurably.
